Time to see how well you crush castles!  Watch the videos and solve the puzzles first.  Remove the guard.  Check your score at the end!

 

1.  Who is guarding the queen?  Remove it!  (This also looks like a decoy sacrifice.)

 

 

2.   Win the queen or rook by making a forcing check first.

 

 

3.  Sacrifice your queen on the back rank to get the rook off of the e-file.  Then checkmate!

 

 

4.  Sacrifice your queen to force the rook away from g7.

 

 

 

 

 

 

5. Now it's Black's turn!  This is a side-file mate.  First sac your queen to allow your rook to give checkmate.

 

 

6.  This is a mate in three.  The first move is a queen sacrifice, removing the rook from guarding d8.  Then your rook makes check, and when they block, just take it!

 

7. The same puzzle but now Black to move and mate in two. Your first move is a queen check.  This removes the white queen from guarding the checkmate square.

 

 

 

8.  White to move and mate or win the queen in two moves.  Your first move is also an absolute pin.  When the queen takes, MATE!
