Mates-in-Two: More Double Checks

Mates-in-Two:  More Double Checks... by, Mrs Jessica Era Prescott (aka BoundingOwl)

Guten Tag my friends!  Good day!  Time to test your skills once again.  Have you seen this video?  It is important to recognize open lines to the kings.  You can use an open file or an open diagonal.  Why are those necessary do you think?

Remember, only your long-range pieces (rooks, bishops, queens) can create a discovery.  And they move in long, straight lines.  So pounce on those open files!!

These puzzles will all be checkmate in two moves.  Each puzzle will require you to use a discovered double check.  It might be on the first move or it might be on the second.  It is your job to discover it!

1.  White to move.  There is an open file to the king!  Sac your queen for a sweet knight and bishop mate.
