Tuesdays Will Have Site-Wide Live Tournaments!
Recently ChessKid added the ability for coaches to host live tournaments, but now ChessKid is going to host weekly live tournaments for the entire world!
That's right! For the first time ChessKids from all over the world will have a chance to win a ChessKid tournament in our live ("fast chess") server. We're calling it "Tournament Tuesday!"
The tournaments are just for fun but a great way to get a good challenge. They follow the "Swiss System" which means that no one is eliminated -- you play ChessKids with the same number of points as you as the tournament progresses.
Here's the schedule and how the tournaments will work. Please read all the instructions carefully if your ChessKid wants to compete!
- Tournaments will be weekly, every Tuesday, starting 2/13/18.
- The early event will begin at 10am Pacific (1pm Eastern; 6pm London; 7pm Central Europe) and the second will begin at 4pm Pacific (7pm Eastern).
- Tournaments are open to all ChessKids (no adults please!), but in order to play, you must first join the ChessKid Official Club.
- The tournaments will generally be 5 rounds each, with a time control of 5+5 (a starting time of 5 minutes with 5 seconds added every move). You can expect the tournaments to last about 65-75 minutes total.
- As of right now, live tournaments are ONLY available to ChessKids on the desktop (web site) version of ChessKid, NOT the apps (this will change one day of course!).
- There is no maximum number of ChessKids for any tournament. Let's try for more than 100 ChessKids at once!
- Registration for each tournament opens 15 minutes before the tournament begins (A ChessKid can "enter" the tournament room prior to that, but the orange registration button will only appear 15 minutes beforehand). It will look like this after a ChessKid enters "fast chess" -- click the blue tournament name to enter the tournament hall:
- There is no "late join" so make sure you register BEFORE the tournament begins.
- Once in the tournament do NOT leave fast chess. When your game ends, wait patiently for the next round to start. It will do so automatically (you can watch other tournament games in progress while waiting).
- Make sure you have a strong internet connection. At this time, if you lose connection you may be auto-removed from the tournament without the ability to get back in.
Our live tournaments are still technically in beta, and we're working hard to add even more features and get rid of any bugs.
If you are a coach and have ideas for improvements, please join the Parents and Coaches Club and reply to the forum about live tournaments feedback.
Have fun and good luck!
