New Feature: Fix Those Endgame Mistakes!
Has this ever happened to you, ChessKids?
You just knew you were better in that endgame, but couldn't pull out the win.
You just knew you could have saved a draw, but somehow you lost.
Well, now if either of these things happens in a game on ChessKid, you'll get a second chance! It won't change the result of the game, but it sure will help you the next time you get a similar ending.
Here's how it works:
- This feature is available for either Slow Chess or Fast Chess games.
- It works when there are five or fewer pieces at the end of the game.
- If a ChessKid fails to win a winning position (that had five or fewer pieces) or if the ChessKid fails to draw a drawn position (that had five or fewer pieces) then a "popup" will occur when the game ends. It looks like this -- just press the orange "Try it again" button!
- You'll be automatically taken back to the position where a major error took place, when you can then play against the computer to see if you can improve.
- During the second attempt, the computer's evaluation function will be on so you can see if you are playing well. You can also take back moves as needed to make sure you complete the endgame well!
- You are also able to enter this "second chance mode" later by going to your game history, finding the game, then clicking the light bulb.
- At the current time, this only works on the web site, but like most features, it will eventually come to our iOS and Android apps as well.
This is a great tool for truly learning mistakes. Instead of just being told how you might have played better, now you have to show it!
Don't forget that gold members can also practice any one of our pre-loaded 63 computer workout endgame positions!
