2021 ChessKid Grant Winner Walnut Grove Elementary in Madison County, AL hosts its first chess tournament.
At ChessKid, we realize that school systems across the country have experienced some of the most challenging school years ever due to the global outbreak of Covid-19. For the third consecutive year, ChessKid wants to assist schools during this challenging time by providing free Gold ChessKid accounts through a grant program for every student at your elementary school. Our goal is to introduce chess education to as many students as possible in the next academic year, and award grants to as many eligible schools as possible.
NO APPLICATION DEADLINE: There is no application deadline, but if you want to start free access for your students in the 2022-23 school year, we recommend that you apply as early as possible and no later than June 1, 2022. If you would prefer to launch a smaller pilot program in your schools, you can apply at any time during the school year. Note that schools awarded grants that start by the fall of 2022 will receive priority in setting up accounts.
WHO SHOULD COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION: A school system administrator (usually a central office administrator) who can answer questions on the application about the number of students at each elementary school and personnel who would administer the program.
WHAT WE ASK OF GRANT RECIPIENTS: ChessKid asks that your teachers undergo training provided by ChessKid staff to help you learn how to use the program, and then allow your students to have access to ChessKid during the school day. Schools customarily host an Hour of Chess Week to introduce students to the program and then let them learn at their own pace.
2020 ChessKid Grant Winner Metro Nashville Schools participates in Hour of Chess Week.
Many schools and chess clubs that already have ChessKid subscriptions have been able to continue their chess activities during the school year, even during periods of virtual learning. If you believe that your students could benefit from ChessKid, submit an application for the 2022 Chesskid.com Grant.
