The Region 8 edition of the monthly ChessKid European Team Festival took place on September 24, with the countries of Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark fielding teams of four talented young players each. In this friendly format, there were two semifinals with the winners of each semifinal moving on to a final round.
Each team fielded players from four different age groups (U8, U10, U12, and U14) and were represented by two boys and two girls.
ChessKid friends WFM Anna Cramling and Birger Wenzel provided commentary.
The first semifinal was between Sweden and Denmark, and the second one took place between Iceland and Norway. Both semifinals ended with the score 6-2 in favour of Sweden and Iceland.
In the finals between Iceland and Sweden, the final score was 4.0-4.0. To decide the winner of the region, one deciding game was played with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move, in which Iceland triumphed. Want to see a replay of all of the action? Click here!

Additionally, all players from the winning team received free year-long ChessKid Gold memberships. The second place team received six-month ChessKid Gold memberships, and all other players received three-month memberships.
WFM Anna Cramling was also joined by a second special guest, Gunnar Bjornsson.
ChessKid thanks all the captains for their great support, as well as our host WFM Anna Cramling and guest commentators: Gunnar Bjornsson, President of the Icelandic Chess Federation, and Birger Wenzel, Vice-president of the Wasa Chess Club.
