Changes To Fast Chess!

 

We've been hard at work behind the scenes at ChessKid, listening to your requests and making improvements to the site.

And...we're excited to share the newest change: an update/overhaul of Fast Chess! (The changes you see here are for the web site version -- the ChessKid app will add these features soon!)

The Fast Chess section of ChessKid is where kids can play a live game with another ChessKid. They can send direct challenges to friends and clubmates or search for an open challenge game with another kid any time!

To open Fast Chess,

• Click "Play" on the left side,
• Select "Play Fast."

Or, as a Kid, you can also click the orange "Fast" button on the Home page:

What's Changed?

More time controls

• ChessKid now offers 3 time controls for live games: 5|5, 15|0 & 30|0. The first number is the usual "bank" of time (in minutes) for the entire game. The second number is the seconds added for every move (the "increment").
• More variety of games! Choose the type that fits your style and amount of time you have to play -

When sending a game challenge, you can now choose which type of game you'd like to play:

You can see what type of game was played in the game history. Look for the time control on the Fast Chess icon:

 

Easier Direct Challenges

We've made it easier to find your Friends & Clubmates and send a direct challenge.

• When you open Fast Chess, the first tab at the top of the page will show which of your friends & clubmates are also online in Fast Chess.
• Click the "Play" symbol next to their username and choose a time control to send them a challenge!
• Adults on the site may now only challenge: Kids they have guardianship of, other members of a club they are in (kids or adults), or friends.

**Remember, in order to see your friends or clubmates, you must both be in the Fast Chess section of the site at the same time! It's not enough to be somewhere else on ChessKid.

 

More Games to Watch

We've made it easier for you to find & observe the games of your kids, friends, and top players on the site!

• The middle tab on the Fast Chess page now shows all the active games on the site.
• Click the binoculars to watch a game!

 

Chat is back!

• Kids can now send emotes & emoticons.
• We want games to be fun & positive. Players can choose from our pre-selected responses.
• And yes we heard your requests for this: Coaches (adults) will soon be able to chat in Fast Chess amongst Kids they have guardianship of. (However, please note that unlike Slow Chess, Fast Chess chats will not be saved in the game archive.)
